The only way to leave is to believe
by halcyon inthat it's okay for there to be no "other place" to go to.
once you realize that there doesn't have to be one right religion that one must be a part of, but that life is blessedly filled with imperfect ways and people who all have a little bit of truth, then you find that you can leave with peace of mind.
(that doesn't make it any easier to be shunned and lose family, but at least inside yourself you're not filled with a gnawing fear of your own decision.

JWs say "where else would we go?" when they see flaws in the organization with such consistency. I believe the WT has deliberately planted that thought in their followers minds to discourage them from leaving.
One former brother, who also noticed how frequently that comment was made, said, "That's just not a reason to stay." I agree. -

I was asked to speak at a local church...
by passwordprotected in...and here's what i had to say; http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/430149/markatkbc.mp3.
one local jw heard that i was speaking about leaving the wts in church and quickly labelled it, in ignorance, as 'witness bashing'.. .
have a listen and judge for yourself.

Great job! Keep doing it. My prayers are with your family, as well as my own, that they escape the cult too, one day.

I always look forward to a New Year. Once again, the year has gone by and the Big A didn't come. My hope is that it makes at least a few JWs think.

How Long Were You Mentally Out Of The "Truth" Before You Left?
by minimus ini was totally spiritually and mentally out of it at least 2 years before i resigned as an elder.
it was actually a long process but i can say it is a complete one.

Looking back, I realize that for years there were many reasons to doubt, but I didn't let myself. Finally, after talking to a Witness friend who had "discovered" that it wasn't the truth, I allowed myself to consciously doubt. Once that happened, it was only a matter of weeks before I found myself wondering how I ever could have believed it at all.
I stopped going to meetings immediately after that. Of course, it helped that I was living far away from my JW family when that happened, and that my then husband, who was also a JW, left the WT with me. Actually, he realized it was BS a few weeks before I fully accepted it. -

I've always wondered something about the Memorial
by heybaby ini wondered this even when i was a gung-ho jw: .
where in the bible do jws find the format for how the memorial should be celebrated by the "other sheep?
" i just don't see anywhere in the bible where it says that those not partaking should pass bread and wine.

I regularly take communion at my church.
For the WT to tell the majority of their followers that they are not allowed to partake, when Christ himself commanded it, is quite shocking from a Christian perspective. This is one of the JW doctrines that I find most outrageous. -

Let's Welcome MVS!
by cameo-d inmvs has only made 3 posts since registering in april.. i don't think mvs has been "officially" welcomed because this announcement was tucked into a post asking a question.
here is the first hello.. .
hello - i am new to the forum and continue to be an active witness for family reasons - i heard someone say that there are three classes of witnesses now - anointed, great crowd, and the conciencius class, i am the latter one..
